Doo Wop Lyrics, Unkown Artist and Title

I suppose any era of a particular genre of music has songs that fall into one of two categories: a) those titles that are popular, overplayed, and remembered, and b) those titles that had perhaps only regional notoriety, were seldom played, but were excellent melodies remembered only a relatively few number of Doo Wop enthusiasts lucky enough to have heard them played.

Such is the case with this song . . . I'm guessing the title to be "The Night" based on the chorus refrains in the lyrics. At this writing, I cannot identify the artists or year of release. Perhaps a reader will recognize the song and offer additional information as a comment to this message post. IMHO, this is one of best, albeit obscure love songs of the Doo Wop era:

I gaze at the moon . . .
Reach for each star . . .
There is my sweetheart . . .
So near yet, so far.

The night . . . with all its mystery . . .
Keeps telling me go back to you . . .
And you'll be waiting there for me.

Can it be true . . .
Or is it just infatuation . . .
Keeps telling me go back to you . . .
And you'll be waiting there for me.

And then . . . her vision
Appeared to me . . .
And whispered softly come back to me . . .

The night . . . with all its mystery . . .
The night . . . the night . . . the night . . .
Keeps telling me go back to you . . .
The night . . . the night . . . the night . . .
. . . and you'll be waiting there, for me . . .
The night . . . the night . . . the night . . .
